Intro to Weaving Workshop Series

Saturday, March 14th at Leedy-Voulkos Art Center | 2012 Balitmore Ave KCMO

Join textile artist Debbie Barrett-Jones for a special two-part Intro to Weaving Workshop designed to introduce participants to the foundational techniques and therapeutic benefits of weaving. Participants may register for Part One, Part Two, or both sessions for a full day of immersive creative exploration. Each workshop stands alone while building on core weaving principles through different materials and approaches.

Part One: Paper Weaving

10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Paper weaving is often overlooked, yet it offers a uniquely versatile and accessible medium for exploring form, color, and structure. In this two-hour workshop, participants will discover how the simple yet profound act of interlacing paper strips can transform everyday materials into intricate artistic compositions.

This hands-on session introduces foundational weaving concepts through paper, allowing for experimentation with pattern, repetition, and design in an approachable format.

Beyond its creative potential, paper weaving also offers therapeutic benefits. The rhythmic act of weaving can reduce stress, enhance mindfulness, and create a calming, meditative experience while fostering a sense of accomplishment.

The workshop includes instruction, materials, and a portfolio for continued exploration.
